Wednesday, August 5, 2020
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM (PDT)
Live Session

Have you ever wanted to negotiate a salary or other career advancement opportunity for yourself but were reluctant to do it? You’re not alone. Anxiety and fear of failure are key reasons professionals don't negotiate for themselves and when they do negotiate, may lack the tools to be most effective. But when women ask for what they want, they increase their influence and financial standing in the world, gain more confidence and improve the communities around them. Join us for an interactive session led by Maya Tussing, Partner at Fairlight Advisors, to learn new ways to ask for what you want.

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM (PDT)
Live Session

Join us for a networking exercise that utilizes the skills learned in the previous workshops with Marsha Redmon and Maya Tussing. This session will include an exercise that allows you to connect with your fellow Next Gen attendees and discover ways in which you may help each other succeed.

*Attending the previous workshops is not required for this exercise but it is recommended.

Judges see it all. They've seen the best advocates and the worst. Come learn how four female Judges view advocacy both in and out of the courtroom. District Judge Beth Freeman and Magistrate Judges Elizabeth Laporte, Sallie Kim and Susan van Keulen will share their insight on how the best advocates win for their clients, how they've used advocacy to advance their own careers and what women can do to better advocate for themselves.

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM (PDT)
Live Session

Juanita Brooks is known for overcoming obstacles, perfecting new practice areas, and confronting the unknown. Juanita is a nationally recognized trial and appellate attorney, master storyteller, and fearless leader and advocate for the advancement of women. Join Meredith Price, Senior Counsel at Intel Corporation, and Juanita for a fireside chat to learn more about how Juanita has overcome fear to take on the toughest IP cases, leveraged mentors and sponsors to advance her career, and built a reputation as a powerhouse and “jury whisperer” in the field of complex, IP litigation.

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM (PDT)

Katherine Minarik (GC and executive leader at Dyson) and Sarita Venkat (Head of Global IP Transactions at Apple) are longtime ChIPsters and ChIPs board members.  They co-host the podcast Heels of Justice, which showcases inspiring, hilarious, and moving stories of women at the top of the legal profession.  The friends invented the ChIPs NextGen conference and the mock exercise, and spend their non-existent free time helping women lawyers get ahead. In short: they are badasses.  Elena DiMuzio (Senior Legal Counsel at Dropbox) will sit down with Katherine and Sarita and we'll discuss what inspires them, how they find time to do so much, and where they get the courage to challenge themselves and take big risks.
