Deanne Maynard is a partner at Morrison & Foerster LLP and co-chairs the firm’s Appellate and Supreme Court practice. She has argued 14 times in the U.S. Supreme Court, with victories in high-profile intellectual property cases. Deanne has also argued dozens of appeals nationwide, with particular experience in the Federal Circuit, where she has argued more than 40 appeals. She has successfully represented both patentees and defendants on a wide range of technologies, including pharmaceuticals, software, consumer electronics, and medical devices. Deanne is ranked Band 1 by Chambers for both nationwide appeals and intellectual property appeals.
Deanne serves as Chair of the Federal Circuit’s Advisory Council, which is a conduit between the Court and the public. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, selected for her distinction as an appellate lawyer, and currently serves as an officer on its Board of Directors.
Deanne is a leader within Morrison & Foerster, serving on the firm’s executive committee and chairing its partner compensation committee.
Before joining Morrison & Foerster, Deanne was an Assistant to the U.S. Solicitor General, representing the United States in the U.S. Supreme Court. She clerked two Terms on the United States Supreme Court, one for Justice Stephen Breyer and another for Justice Lewis Powell (Ret.) and Justice John Paul Stevens. She also clerked two years for Judge Stanley Harris on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Deanne graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where she was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.
