Ruthie D. Lyle, PhD is a highly accomplished leader, expert on emerging technologies, and trusted advisor to CEOs and boards. The first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from NYU, she has 20+ years of experience leading cross-functional global teams through R&D and commercialization of new technologies. A constant learner and proponent of translating AI into real-world applications, Lyle helps organizations embrace artificial intelligence, unearth novel applications, and deploy AI to advance societal good and shareholder value. A registered USPTO Patent Agent and IBM Master Inventor Emeritus, she has 220+ issued and pending patents. With a strong background in public speaking, Lyle works to demystify STEM and innovation to empower underserved communities.

In addition to her 20+ year technical career, Dr. Lyle's experience as a 2023-24 Journey Fellow engaging diverse women leaders allows her to advise on diversity and inclusion issues. Her speaking engagements make her skilled at distilling complex topics for a broad audience.

Dr. Lyle was named to the Board of Trustees of Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill. As one of two persons of color on the board, she focuses on building promoting diversity and aligns policies toward fiduciary responsibility and mission focus. She strives to make a Trinity education accessible to disadvantaged students. Her passion for equity aligns with her Christian faith.
