Speaker Bio
As Executive VP and General Counsel, Danielle Aguirre oversees all of NMPA’s legal, business, legislative and policy objectives. Her role is to protect and enforce the copyrights and intellectual property interests of songwriters and music publishers. Ms. Aguirre aggressively fights digital piracy and infringement litigating on behalf of NMPA’s members. She negotiates model licenses with services and labels to ensure publishers and songwriters are compensated fairly for the use of their songs. Before the Copyright Royalty Board, she recently oversaw a victorious result on behalf of songwriters and publishers which significantly raised mechanical royalty rates under Section 115 of the Copyright Act. Notably, Ms. Aguirre has worked with stakeholders including digital companies, broadcasters, PROs, record labels and more to negotiate and draft the Music Modernization Act, which makes necessary and important reforms to copyright law benefitting songwriters, artists, producers and engineers. The bill, which passed the House of Representatives unanimously in May and recently passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee, awaits consideration by the full Senate.

Prior to joining NMPA, Ms. Aguirre was an attorney at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. She received her JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and her BA from Georgetown University.
