Michelle Richardson is the Director of the Center for Democracy and Technology’s Privacy and Data Project where her team advocates for policies and technical solutions that protect individual privacy, empower users, and advance social justice.
Michelle has testified before Congress, advised government agencies, and frequently appears in national press. Recognized by The Hill as one of DC’s most influential nonprofit lobbyists, her recent work has focused on consumer privacy, Internet of Things policy, cybersecurity, surveillance, and encryption.
Michelle previously led the ACLU’s preeminent legislative campaigns against overreaching surveillance programs and served as a counsel for the House Judiciary Committee. She received her B.A. from the University of Colorado and her J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law. She currently serves as a Senior Fellow at George Washington University’s Center for Cyber and Homeland Security.
