Devon Hanley Cook leads the litigation team at Anthropic, the AI safety company behind the Claude family of large language models. Devon has been at the center of some of the most consequential litigation in the emerging AI space, including leading Bartz v. Anthropic—a copyright class action that resulted in both a summary judgment decision that training on copyrighted books is fair use and what is believed to be the largest copyright settlement in U.S. history and Anthropic v. Department of War–a case challenging the US Government’s designation of the company as a supply chain risk under federal procurement statutes.
Prior to joining Anthropic, Devon was a litigator at LinkedIn, the professional social network, and at Niantic, the augmented reality gaming company known for Pokémon GO.
She received a J.D. from the University of Chicago and a B.A. from University of Pennsylvania.
