Ms. Hammel is an attorney with the Office of Policy and International Affairs (OPIA) at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Ms. Hammel provides advice on domestic and international intellectual property (IP) and helps to formulate U.S. domestic and international policy regarding the protection of trademarks and geographical indications (GIs). Ms. Hammel’s portfolio includes the Oceania region, Mercosur (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay), French
Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela. She also represents the United States at the World IP Organization (WIPO) Standing Committee on the Law of Trademarks, Industrial Designs, and GIs (SCT), the WIPO Committee on Development and IP, and the WIPO Assemblies.
