Julie Gruber is an experienced global fortune 200 Executive with extensive board room exposure and experience. Over her career, Julie has had the opportunity to lead a wide variety of disciplines including Government Affairs, Sustainability, the Gap Foundation, Corporate Administration, Corporate Real Estate and Facilities, Employee Relations and Security, Asset Protection and Business Continuity, in addition to all aspects of Legal and Compliance. She has also overseen Human Resources, and Communications. This breadth of experience has given Julie the opportunity to impact all aspects of the company’s operations, and her knowledge and leadership is sought out by her peers. Julie was a critical member of the leadership team executing Gap Inc.’s planned separation of Old Navy, was one of four leaders who worked directly with the interim CEO to lead Gap Inc. while the CEO search was underway, and is an integral member of the leadership team guiding Gap Inc. through the COVID 19 crisis and the execution of its Power Plan 2023.
Julie plays an integral role in Risk Management at Gap Inc. she co-founded the company’s Risk Committee and chairs the Integrity and Corporate Crisis teams. She also established Gap Inc.’s Cyber Security and Privacy Council and provides influential leadership in this critical area. Julie has significant experience across branding, intellectual property, licensing and franchising and played a critical role in each of Gap Inc.’s acquisitions and other major deals.
Julie also has extensive board exposure and governance experience through her role as Corporate Secretary and beyond. She is a trusted advisor to the board and works closely with the Chairman of the Board and the CEO on a wide range of issues including strategy development, executive and director compensation and recruiting, ESG matters and investor relations. Julie also partners closely with Internal Audit and the Board of Directors’ Audit committee on a variety of matters including anti-corruption, ethics, privacy and cyber security.
Julie graduated from Yale College (B.A.) and then earned her JD at the University of California’s Hastings College of Law. She had the honor of clerking for the Honorable Ronald M. Whyte in the Federal District Court in San Jose.

Julie has a passion, drive and commitment to creating opportunities for underrepresented groups both inside the legal profession and beyond. She plays an integral role in the work to diversify Gap’s board which is now 46% women and served on Gap Inc.’s Diversity and Inclusion Council for many years. She also drove Gap Inc. to join the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, an organization of more than 300 corporate legal officers dedicated to creating a truly diverse legal profession in the U.S. , and the Gap Inc. legal team was recognized by Minority Corporate Counsel Association as an Employer of Choice for the Western region.
In addition, Julie is a trusted and sought-after advisor and speaker on topics of corporate governance, diversity, privacy, and the role of legal in corporate leadership. She built Gap’s mentoring program for the legal department. She also works with local law schools to speak to groups of students as well as participates in mentoring individuals on their careers.
